Police are appealing for information after two 19 year old local men were assaulted as they walked through Riverside Park with five friends including two women.
Both men sustained facial injuries in the unprovoked attack which required treatment at Southampton General Hospital. Two other men in the group were also assaulted but they did not need to be treated for their injuries.
The incident occurred at around 6pm on Sunday, August 12 as the men walked along the footpath at the back of the park, close to the miniature railway.
While walking, they saw a group of around 5-6 youths sat on a bench further along the path.
They had what looked like two pit-bull terrier dogs with them.
As they approached the group something was shouted out at them but this was not heard so the men continued walking.
They were then approached by one of the group who began punching one of the men in the head causing him to fall to the ground.
When his friend tried to intervene, he was assaulted by two others from the group and he was also bitten by one of the dogs.
The offenders then walked off in the direction of the nearby Conservative Club.
The main offender is described as: White Approx 5ft 5ins tall Stocky build Short blonde/brown hair He was wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.
Another offender is described as: White Approx 5ft 9ins tall He was wearing a white top.
A third offender is described as: White Approx 5ft 7ins tall Medium build He was wearing a grey/white zip up hoodie.
