New Superyacht Academy Launches

A South Coast Uni's launching a range of courses - just to teach students how to work on board multi-million-pound superyachts.

Southampton Solent University is launching Warsash Superyacht Academy (WSA) at the Monaco Yacht Show today (19th September).

It's one of the world’s first superyacht academies where students will be able to take maritime education and training programmes learning how to be superyacht officers and crew.

The superyacht industry contributed €24bn to the world economy in 2010 and creates €5.99bn worth of jobs annually.

WSA will offer traininfor interior, deck and engineering crew and officers, professional certification for officers and captains, and personal development up to master’s degree level.

Based on WMA’s 17 acre water side campus, students will learn to operate and command sophisticated superyachts using modern navigational, engineering and interior practices, with the latest legal and technical knowledge. 

Warsash Superyacht Academy Director, Andrew Hair said: “Our capability to deliver an exclusive, allā€encompassing range of high quality courses for interior, deck and engineering personnel draws upon nearly 70 years as a world class and innovative provider  of maritime education, training, research and consultancy.

 “Warsash Superyacht Academy will foster the interests of Superyacht personnel, owners and management companies by providing the specialist training and business services required to meet developing needs and elite standards.”

Warsash Superyacht Academy will be officially launched at the Monaco Yacht Show, 19-22 September.
