Owner of Stolen Propellers Puts Up Reward

23 March 2011, 13:26

The owner of two massive bronze propellers, which were stolen from a Portsmouth boatyard, is offering a reward of £1,000 for information leading to their recovery.

They were taken from Trafalgar Wharf Boat Yard at Portsmouth Harbour between 7.30pm and 8.20pm on Tuesday. (March 8th)

Three men forced a security barrier up before entering the yard in a large flatbed lorry with a Hiab branded crane.

They took two large bronze three-bladed propellers, approximately six foot in diameter and weighing approximately 1.5 tonnes each. Each propeller, if used as scrap metal, is valued at £8,000 each.

PC Hannah Vardy, of Cosham police station, said: “At this time, with scrap metal prices so high, we believe this theft to have been committed by organised offenders who had the equipment to deal with such heavy objects.

"Anyone who may be vulnerable to thefts of this nature should ensure they have the adequate security measures in place to prevent them becoming a target.”

Anyone with any information regarding the thefts is asked to call PC Hannah Vardy at Cosham police station on 101.

Alternatively call the Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
