Pensioner Sees Off Burglar From House

Police are investigating a burglary in Portsmouth where a woman came home to confront a man suspected of attempting to steal from her house.

The 72-year-old left the address in Walsall Road at around 6.50pm on Thursday, August 16 to go to her local shop. 

The woman returned home at around 7pm when she saw a man she did not know inside her house. 

The 72-year-old shouted at him to get out and he ran away. No property was reported stolen. 

Detective Constable Les Leithes said: "Police appealing for witnesses because at this time of the evening the local park, Tamworth Park, would have been busy with dog walkers and young children with parents. 

"Did you see anyone acting suspiciously, running through the park or out onto Langstone Road?"
