Police investigating a road traffic collision which left a 79-year-old cyclist with serious head injuries have made an arrest.
A 31-year-old man from Gosport was arrested at his home address this morning. He has been taken into custody where he is currently being interviewed by officers.
The arrest follows the incident which occurred at 6.50pm last night (Wednesday, September 4) on Privett Road close to the junction with The Chase.
The cyclist has been identified as a 79-year-old local man. He is currently in the Neurological Intensive Care unit of Southampton General Hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit investigating the collision are still appealing for witnesses to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and ask for Sergeant Andy Lynch, quoting Operation Clouded.
