Police Investigate Southampton Sex Attack

Detectives in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted shortly after getting out of a taxi in Southampton.

The 25-year-old was dropped off by the taxi on Onslow Road almost opposite it’s junction with Mount Pleasant Road. A man on the other side of the road by the junction itself then beckoned her across.

She wasn’t feeling well and thought she knew him so went across the road to see him and walked with him a short distance. He then dragged her into a second hand car lot called ‘Cheapies in the Valley’ and sexually assaulted her.

She managed to fight him off and he eventually walked away. The incident was reported to police a short time later by a passer-by who she told what had happened.

The attacker was dressed distinctively in an apron and a white top at the time. A 21-year-old man from Southampton has since been arrested and is currently being questioned by officers.

Police are asking for anyone else who was in the area who saw the incident or the man hanging around the area around 1am today, Tuesday, November 23 to contact them. They would also like to hear from the taxi driver who dropped her off.

They are asked to call Detective Constable Scott Spafford at Bitterne CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
