Police have released an efit picture of a man they want to speak to after a woman was assaulted on the Isle of Wight.

Officers received a report that between 12.30am and 1.30am on Monday, June 14, a woman was sexually assaulted by a man in Newport.

The incident occurred while the Isle of Wight Festival was taking place, but it is understood to have happened outside the festival grounds, in Newport.

The woman did not know the man.

It is also believed that several other men, all of whom had northern accents, were involved in this incident.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything in relation to this incident, or who recognises this efit picture.

It is believed that both the woman and the men involved had attended the Isle of Wight Festival.

Detective Sergeant Will Burns said: “It is thought that the man had been with a small number of others, who may know what happened.

“I would appeal directly to that group – did you see or hear anything directly? Or perhaps you’ve overheard someone talking about the incident? Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital to us and I would urge you to contact the police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Will Burns, at Newport police station on the Isle of Wight on 101 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Callers from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight should call 0845 045 45 45.
