Power Cut Attempted Theft in Totton

Police are appealing for information following the attempted theft of copper in Totton on Wednesday June 2.

At around 11am a power cut occurred, cutting off the power supply to a large number of homes in the area of Jacobs Gutter Lane.

The electricity company located the source of the power cut within a field opposite Jacobs Gutter Lane.

A live power cable in a stream running under the railway line had been tampered with leaving the copper wiring exposed and causing the power cuts.

PC Bridget Stone said: “It is extremely dangerous to tamper with any electricity cables particularly those close to water as the consequences could result in serious burns or even death. I would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area of Jacobs Gutter Lane at the time of the power cut.”

Anyone with information about this incident should contact PC Bridget Stone at Hythe police station on 101. Alternatively you can call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
