Search For Gosport Arsonist

Police in Gosport are seeking witnesses following an incident of arson that happened in Sunbeam Way on Thursday, October 27.

At some point between midnight and 1am someone deliberately set fire to a black bin bag containing domestic refuse in the communal hallway of a block of flats in the road.

Smoke alarms activated and the fire was put out by one of the residents, prior to the fire service arriving. The fire only caused minor damage.

No injuries came about as a consequence of the fire either, but two residents - a 25-year-old woman and her six month old baby - were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for a check up.

Detective Constable Sandi Peet said:

"This is serious incident that could have resulted in far more extensive damage to the flat and could have potentially endangered the lives of the residents.

We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously close to the flats around the time of the incident. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have information about the person or persons responsible."

Anyone with information should contact Gosport CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
