'Sick Joke' On Southampton Titanic Grave

Binoculars have been put on the Southampton grave of the man who was the lookout on Titanic.

Fred Fleet spotted the iceberg in 1912 but didn't have binoculars because they'd been locked away. It's believed the key had been taken aboard another ship by mistake.

A note was also left on the grave in Southampton's Hollybrook Cemetery.

It said:

"Dear Fred,

Sorry for bringing these 100 years too late but better late than never!

You said if you had these you would have had time enough to get Titanic away from the iceberg so here they are!

Luv Francis."

It's being described as a 'sick joke'.

Fred Fleet did survive the disaster, but was said to be crippled with guilt. He died in 1965.
