Southampton Common Robbery

Police in Portswood are appealing for witnesses and information after a 20-year-old man was robbed of his laptop and cash.

The victim was walking alone through Southampton Common, heading in the direction of The Avenue at its junction with Northlands Road between 10.30am and 11am on Monday, October 25.

As he reached the area between the boating lake and paddling pool a man grabbed him from behind and pulled his arms behind his back.

A second man then stole the victim’s laptop bag containing a silver Apple Mac laptop and Nintendo DSI. He then searched the victim’s jacket pockets, stealing £80 from his wallet before pushing him to the ground. Both suspects then ran off
back into the Common.

The first man was not properly seen but the second man is described as: white, aged in his late 20s, just over 6ft in height and of skinny build.  He had very dark brown/black medium length hair described as unstyled and mop-like and was
clean-shaven. He was wearing very dark navy blue jeans and a dark blue or black plain long-sleeved t-shirt.

PC Kate Andrews of Portswood police station, said:

“With it being half term there must have been people in and around the Common on Monday morning. Were you out walking, running or cycling in the area and did you see two men acting suspiciously, one with medium length dark hair?

“I’d like to hear from anyone who witnessed this robbery or anyone who has been offered a silver Apple Macbook and/or Nintendo DSI to buy in the last couple of days. The laptop bag these items came in is quite distinctive - two tone brown with a black strap & a small white embroidered shark in the left hand corner of the front flap.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Kate Andrews at Portswood police station on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
