Watermark WestQuay Plans Approved

Initial plans for a new £70 million development in Southampton city centre have been given the go-ahead.

The outline planning application for the first phase of the Watermark WestQuay project was passed by the council's Planning and Rights of Way Panel on Tuesday 23 July. The developer, Hammerson, will come back later this year with an application for full planning permission.

The plaza will include a new a continental-style café and restaurant quarter, with up to 24,000m2 of retail space, a luxury cinema, a pocket park, hotel and a landmark residential building comprising up to 240 apartments.

Watermark WestQuay is the centre piece of a host of major developments planned for the city, with more than £800 million planned developments planned over the next few years.
