Woman Admits Making Up Knife Attack

A woman who told police a man tried to kidnap her at knifepoint has admitted she made the whole thing up.

The 40-year-old from Andover said he tried to force her into his car, and cut her with a Stanley knife in August. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment for a cut on her chest and arm.

Police carried out a massive investigation and looked at CCTV but couldn't find any evidence.

She was arrested on suspicion of wasting police time and during a further interview admitted she had made a false allegation and has now been cautioned for wasting their time.

DC Marie Greer of Andover CID, said:

“This was an act that cost Hampshire Constabulary a lot of wasted hours and the taxpayer a lot of wasted money.

“It could have also caused fear and distress among residents in the area, believing there was a kidnapper at large in their community.

“This kind of action is not tolerated by the police as it takes valuable time and resources away from those in genuine need and distress.

“I hope this serves as a warning to others who may consider doing a similar thing.”
