Woman Sexually Assaulted In Southampton

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assault in Millbrook, Southampton.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 28, a 21-year-old local woman was walking through Green Park from the Kendal Avenue side towards Totland Close. She was pushed to the floor from behind by a man and sexually assaulted.

Police say the victim was also robbed of some of her personal possessions during the attack, and are appealing for anyone who may have found a Nokia mobile phone or a large grey and black purse to contact them.

The offender's described as:

*Taller than 5'8

*Medium build

*Wearing a dark coloured light weight jacket similar to a kagool, with the hood up and the drawstring pulled tightly around his face.

Detective Inspector Dave Morgan, leading the investigation, said:

"This is nasty attack on a lone woman who was walking home across a park. We are completing various enquiries and have more than fifteen officers currently working on the case. These enquiries include visiting local residents and reviewing CCTV which we have obtained in the vicinity. We are also conducting high visibility patrols in the area.

"I would like to thank the public for the information that we have had so far. One important thing we have become aware of is that people have told us about a rumour circulating on Facebook about a strange man hanging around the local area. This may well have nothing to do with this investigation but equally it could be vital information and I need to know more. Is it fact or fiction?

"If you can help and if you haven't yet come forward to tell us about something you saw or heard in the area on Friday night or the early hours of Saturday morning, please contact us. I need your support to help me identify who the offender
is."

"Finally, I would like to stress that this attack is not linked to any other offences that I am aware of."

Anyone with information can contact the Operation Carnfield team at Southampton Central Police station on 101, or give information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
