Volcanic ash helps boost Devon trade.

South Hams holiday companies are anticipating a big rise in summer bookings thanks to the volcanic ash - bookings are already up by a third compared to last year.

It is thought people's fear of getting stranded is the main reason. Tourism groups say there is a lot of uncertainty which means many will decide to stay in the UK for safety.

They say Devon has so much to offer families with Dartmoor, our beaches, coastal walks and various attractions and if more people try staying here once they are sure to return year on year.

The recent air strikes are another reason why people are being put off travelling and economic problems abroad are adding to their worries.
