A windsurfer and 2 kite surfers have been rescued and 3 more assisted since Saturday on one South Devon beach.

Red flags have ben flying at Bantham because the stormy conditions have been so challenging.

Conditions at the time of Tuesday's rescue (see video) included a strong onshore wind and surf of up to six foot.

Lifeguards rescued a man who couldn’t re-launch his kite when it went in to the sea in high winds and a big swell.

Paul Gunning is the RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor for the area: "The stormy conditions tend to attract extreme sports enthusiasts but no matter who you are you really need to assess the conditions and be honest about your capabilities".

"Chat to the lifeguard team too, we have the latest weather information and can warn you about local hazards.’
