Bury St Edmunds Chemical Find: Cordon Lifted

A cordon set up by police in Plovers Way in Bury St Edmunds earlier after potentially dangerous chemicals were found at a house has now been lifted.

Last night, Tuesday 11th October, a 21-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds was arrested on suspicion of arson and blackmail.

A residential property was then searched and potentially dangerous chemicals found inside. A 100m cordon was set up and the bomb disposal squad called as a precaution.

Police will remain on scene at the house overnight and further searches are planned for tomorrow.

The 21-year-old man remains in custody at the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.

Police have set up a cordon in Plovers Way, Bury St Edmunds following the discovery of potentially dangerous chemicals.

Bomb experts have been called to Plovers Way after chemicals were found inside a house which could be potentially dangerous.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds last night, Tuesday 11 October on suspicion of arson and blackmail. He remains in custody at the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.

A 100m cordon has been set up and the bomb disposal squad has been called as a precaution.

There is no information at this stage to say an evacuation of the area is necessary, however residents within the cordon are currently being advised to remain inside their properties.
