A man has died after being rescued from the sea in Felixstowe on Sunday night.
The initial call was made at around 6pm after someone was spotted in the water near to the sea defences at the mouth of the River Deben.
An RAF search and rescue helicopter from Wattisham was already in the air in the area on a training exercise and was diverted to help.
The man had been in the water for only around 18 minutes when the helicopter crew winched him to safety but he later died after being taken to Ipswich Hospital.
It is not yet known how the man entered the water.
