Police were called at around 3.35am to the High Street, where offenders had used a digger to remove the ATM from the wall of the bank. The machine was dumped nearby with the cash cartridges removed.
The digger was believed to have been driven into the High Street from the direction of the church. A small dark hatchback car was seen driving away after the theft towards the church.
Officers searched the area but the offenders were not found. This morning inquiries are being carried out to establish where the digger came from and CCTV is being viewed.
