Ipswich: Company Fined for Oil Drum Explosion

An Ipswich company has been fined for an oil drum explosion that left an employee in a coma for 5 days.

Findlay Gavin was badly hurt in the accident in November 2011 at CVS (Anglia) Ltd of Holywells Road.

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance with head injuries where he remained unconscious for five days.

Ipswich Borough Council took the motor repair company to the court over health and safety breaches.

They were fined £40,000 - £20,000 for each of the two offences, the maximum the magistrates could impose.

The company has also been ordered to pay nearly £17,000 in costs.
