Ipswich: Girls Threatened With Knife Over Cigarette

Two 17 year old girls have been threatened by a man with a knife, on Majors Corner in Ipswich.

The girls went behind the toilet block on Majors Corner for a cigarette when they were approached by the man who spoke to them. He then produced a small knife and, as he saw one of the girls was holding cigarettes, demanded one from them.

Both girls feared for their safety and handed over a cigarette before running away. The man was then seen walking off along Old Foundry Road.

Police need to trace a man - described as white, in his late 40s, around 5ft 6ins - 5ft 7ins tall, of chubby build, with short almost bald dark hair, wearing glasses with rectangular frames, a black baggy jumper, blue baggy jacket with a hood and blue jeans, who walked with a slight hunch - after he approached two 17-year-old girls in Old Foundry Road, produced a knife and demanded they hand over a cigarette.

Officers are asking anyone who may have seen the incident or anyone with information about the man involved to call DC Ruth Hayter at Ipswich CID on 101.
