Ipswich: Man Arrested After Serious Sexual Assault

A man's been arrested after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in Ipswich back in October.

The 30-year-old man from Ipswich is being questioned by police on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment. 

At approximately 8.30pm on Sunday 9 October, a 27-year-old woman who was sitting on a bench in Austin Street, Ipswich was approached by a group of four men.

The men started talking to the woman before she walked off, stating she needed to go home.

All four men walked with her and as they passed an alleyway leading off Austin Street she was pushed into the alleyway where one of the men sexually assaulted her.

Afterwards the woman carried on walking towards Hartley Street with the men following, once on Hartley Street she was pushed into another alleyway where she was sexually and physically assaulted by one of the men.

A member of the public saw the woman and helped her as the men walked off.


He was also arrested in connection with three vehicle fires in the town on Tuesday evening.

The incidents occurred at Plover Road, Lindisfarne Close and Hawthorn Drive.

A 23-year-old from Ipswich was arrested yesterday and both remain in custody at the Ipswich Police Investigation Centre.
