Suffolk singer songwriter Ed Sheeran is launching a new guitar to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
It has been designed by Guitar manufacturer C.F. Martin & Co. in collaboration with Ed, and features the word ‘each’ as well as Ed’s signature fluorescent orange “+” plus sign and “est. 1991”, to represent the name of his platinum-selling album and the year he was born.
All of the royalties from the sale of the guitar will be donated to EACH.
Ed is already an EACH supporter – He donated his drum kit to The Treehouse last year for children and young people to use in music therapy sessions, a young man from the hospice who is a fan met Ed backstage at his Thetford Forest gig last year and his mum Imogen designed The EACH Bracelet which was worn by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and has raised more than £10,000 for the charity.
Ed said: “It was a huge privilege to have the opportunity to collaborate with Martin Guitar. I have been a fan of Martin since I started playing guitar and song writing, and I am honoured to have a Signature Edition that bears my own personal imprint.
“All of the royalties from every purchase from my Signature Edition will go to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. I can’t wait to get on stage and perform with it for my fans - I hope they enjoy my new Martin as much as I do!”
Vanessa Bell, EACH Suffolk Fundraiser, said: “We’re thrilled Ed has chosen EACH to benefit from the sales of the guitar – it’s a great way to raise funds and promote the work of EACH to a really wide audience, thanks to his millions of fans.
“To have a signature guitar created really must be a milestone in his career so it’s really touching to think EACH is at the forefront of Ed’s mind and shows just how grounded he is.”
Graham Butland, EACH Chief Executive, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that EACH will benefit from the sales of this special guitar and we’d like to thank Ed, C.F. Martin & Co, and absolutely everyone involved in the project.
“Not only will the guitar raise much-needed funds for the charity, but will also greatly raise the profile of EACH and the vital care and support we provide to life-threatened children and their families.”
Ed will unveil his LX1E Ed Sheeran Signature Edition to his U.S. fan base when he performs on the TODAY SHOW Summer Concert series on Friday July 12. Fans will then be able to see Ed playing his new guitar for the rest of his 2013 tour with Taylor Swift.
