A man accused of helping a former prison-mate to escape from guards at West Suffolk Hospital is denying being involved.

Garry Cowan,45, denies the armed ambush to release Andrew Farndon from outside the hospital in Bury St Edmunds on January 25th.

Cowan told the court during his trial that he was hitch-hiking at the time of the escape.

The jury at Woolwich Crown Court in London were told that the two men got on 'like a house on fire' whilst doing time together.

The trial continues.
