Reading Man In Court Over Murder

A man's appeared in court this morning charged with murder after a woman's body was found in Reading last Friday.

At about 1.45pm on Friday (11th November), a man walked into Reading police station and told police there was a body at an address in Coronation Square, Reading.

Officers went to the address and discovered the body of a 38-year-old woman.

Luis Marrafa, 46, from Coronation Square, Reading, Berkshire, is accused of killing 38 year old Sandra Maralhas.

A post-mortem examination found she had been strangled, police said.

He appeared at Reading Crown Court this morning.

His next hearing will be a Plea and Case Management on the 1st of March 2012.

Supt Stuart Greenfield, Local Police Area Commander for Reading, said:

"This is believed to be an isolated incident and should not impact on the wider community.

"Officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area and any residents who are concerned should contact their neighbourhood team through the Police Enquiry Centre."
