The 19-year-old man has been left in a serious but stable condition after the incident in Oxford City Centre.
It happened on George Street near Debenhams in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police are telling us they were called there at 2.18am with the collision happening as the taxi travelled in the opposite direction to the cyclist.
The cyclist was then taken to John Radcliffe Hospital to be treated for a head injury.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area, which is near the junction with Cornmarket, at the time and may have witnessed the incident but has not yet spoken to the police to please contact them as a matter of urgency on the 24 hour non-emergency number 101.
If you don’t want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
