A man has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery incident at a The Shop in Sherfield on Loddon.
James Barker, of Badgers Bank, Lychpit, Basingstoke, has been charged with attempted robbery, assaulting a police officer and failing to provide a specimen of breath.
The charges are in relation to an incident which happened shortly after 10am on Monday, May 26. A man entered the Londis store in Reading Road, wearing a motorcycle helmet and waving a hammer. He threatened a member of staff and demanded cash.
No one was injured and the man was arrested after being restrained by several members of the public.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "The man was believed to be carrying some liquid which may have spilt when he was being restrained.
"Members of the public should be reassured that this liquid is not harmful."
The 32-year-old appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 27, and was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Winchester Crown Court on June 19.
