£15 million needs to be spent bringing Devon and Somerset's fire stations up to scratch.
That includes building a new station in Brixham and revamping Torquay's.
Chief Fire Officer Pete Smith is hoping to pay for some of improvements by joining with other services: "we're looking with all of our community partners - the police, the ambulance service, local authorities - to actually find ways of combining fire stations with other facilities."
He continued: "we have ambulances stationed at fire stations as it is, we have police facilities at fire stations and we would like to develop a model that sees a real benefit to the community in the future."
