28 Taken To Hospital After M4 Crash

28 people have been taken to hospital following a major accident involving a bus on the M4.

It closed the motorway in both directions between Miskin (J34) and Cardiff West (J33) causing miles of queuing traffic.

One person had to be airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales. The 27 other injured were taken to three other hospitals.

A spokesperson from South Wales Police said:

"At approximately 1155 hours this morning a road traffic collision occurred on the eastbound M4 between junctions 34 and 33 to the west of Cardiff. A white bus and four vehicles were involved in this collision.

"From the Ambulance Service a total of twenty eight casualties were taken to hospital at UHW, Royal Glamorgan and Princess of Wales either by road or air ambulance. Most of these were classed as ‘walking wounded’ but six of them were more serious although none are believed to be life threatening or life changing. 

"The bus is understood to have contained persons from the Bridgend area travelling to Cardiff to see a show.

"A further collision occurred in the westbound carriageway at the same location a few minutes later where a vehicle towing another vehicle overturned, there were no injuries in this collision.  Delays were encountered in both directions as the collisions were dealt with.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision involving the bus and who have not already given their details to police is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101."
