The dad of a man - forced to work on a Welsh farm for more than a decade - says we need to look out for signs of modern day slavery.

44 year old Darrell Simester was found at Cariad Farm near Newport last March.

His boss David Dan Doran has been sentenced to 4 and a half years at Cardiff Crown Court.

The court heard how Darrell slept in a rat infested shed and washed himself in an animal trough.

He wasn't paid for his work but it's estimated had he been given the minimum wage he would have earned more than £200,000.

There's now a call for people to be aware of modern day slavery - and report their concerns to the police.

Darrell's dad Tony Simester said: "I'd ask the people of Wales and the rest of the UK to be extra vigilant at all times.

This form of slavery could be happening under your noses."

David Doran admitted a charge of compulsory labour and will serve just under 2 years in jail.
