New domain names for Wales

We will soon be able to use .Wales or .Cymru for internet sites across Wales

The Welsh government has announced it will be switching from using .gov.uk to the more localised site domain name.

First Minster of Wales Carwyn Jones says it will "enhance the global presence of brand Wales".

Many other companies are keen to change their name with Sport Wales and the National Muesum of Wales changing in September.

They will be joined also by the Real Welsh Sausage Company in Welshpool, and the public interest company in Cardiff IndyCube.

Fabulous Welshcakes in Cardiff Bay is joining them too, Owner Jo Roberts says:

"I think it gives a strong identity of where you are based as a business and thats good it gives your business a little bit more personality and it makes you stand out from businesses that don't have a more localised identity."

“It could be really good for everywhere across the country to have its own personalised domain name as it adds more to local brands and companies.”

"I'm excited, its nice to be one of the first businesses to change domain names and I think it will give us a stronger brand name online, I can't wait for it to change in a few months."

This demonstrates the real appeal of the new domains to local businesses across Wales
