Welsh Mum "Saddened" By Bastion Closure

The last British troops have left Camp Bastion in Afghanistan - marking the end of 13 years of involvement.

Hundreds of soldiers were airlifted out at dawn in a secret mission that's been planned for months.

Yesterday a handover ceremony took place at the Helmand site.

It means that Afghan forces are now in charge.

Sarah Adams from Cwmbran lost her son James in combat and visited the base 2 years ago:

" Camp bastion was a must for me to get to and it took three years to finally get there"

"I needed to be able to see where James closed his eyes for the last time and where as a mum I felt that I should have been when he needed me"

21-year-old Private James Prosser is one of the 453 soldiers who died fighting in Afghanistan.

Sarah says she felt at peace when she got to visit Bastion:

" I actually didn't want to come home, I felt so close to James there"

"It's an amazing place and the fact that it's not going to be there anymore and will be back in the hands of the Taliban, quite quickly I can imagine, is hard to take.

Prime Minister David Cameron's tweeted to say we'll never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
