Welsh students fury over courses moving

Students who signed up to courses for three years at the University of Newport could now face a move to Cardiff.

It’s after the merger between Newport and Glamorgan universities earlier this year.

Many courses were duplicated meaning that courses had to merge together.

Fashion Design is one of the courses that will be moving to the Welsh capital under its new name of the University of South Wales.

Rebecca Wisedale is a Newport fashion student who has set up a petition to get students voices heard.

Many students aren’t happy about the move after signing up to a three year course in Newport.

Rebecca says...

‘A lot of people are annoyed as many signed up to go to Newport and many live local and walk to uni, people don’t want to get on a bus everyday to Newport...it’s expensive.

It’s deeply unprofessional and i’m angry about it.

We chose Newport for good reasons, Newport as a course has a fantastic reputation for 50 years.’

The university has issued a statement which says...

‘We have been in touch with the students personally to address rumours about the fashion courses at the University of South Wales.

Over the next couple of years the course will be moving across to Cardiff, and be part of the new home of the University's Creative Industries.

Students should feel reassured that the lecturing team are all part of this move, the course that they are studying will remain the same, with the same inspirational staff team.

We have reassured the students that we have them at the heart of everything we do.
