Boy Dies a Week After Stabbing

The grandmother of a 16-year-old boy who died in hospital after being stabbed in Birmingham has described him as a ''peace-maker'' and appealed for information to catch his killers.

Gail Lambe said the family of Kyle Sheehan, who died last Friday after a week-long fight for life, had been through a horrendous ordeal following the attack in Bartley Green. 

Speaking at a press conference at West Midlands Police headquarters, Ms Lambe revealed that one of Kyle's legs had been amputated and his organs had failed as medics tried to save him. 

Appealing for witnesses to the stabbing to come forward, the 55-year-old said: ''It's just been horrendous. Kyle went through such a lot. 

''Somebody needs to come forward and let us know (what happened) because we're in limbo now.''

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jones, from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, is leading the murder inquiry: "It is tragic that a lad so young has lost his life in such a violent and distressing way.

He leaves behind a family and many friends who are distraught and struggling to come to terms with what has happened. We know many people were in the area and would have seen what went on that night, but many are still yet to come forward to share their information with police. 

We now directly appeal to you to speak to us and help us find those people responsible for killing Kyle." 

Three men, aged 16, 18 and 29, arrested on Friday 28th on suspicion of wounding, have been released on police bail. A fourth local man, aged 23, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
