The son of singer Bryan Ferry is in hospital after suffering multiple injuries in a road accident in Shropshire.

Merlin Ferry, son of Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry, is believed to be in hospital after being trapped in a car for almost an hour following a serious collision.

Crew from Wellington Fire Service eventually freed the man from his vehicle that was left looking like a "mangled box of tin", according to his brother Otis.

He also thanked emergency services for freeing his younger sibling from the wreckage.

The accident occurred on Monday evening near the village of Cressage, Shropshire.

Two ambulances, a trauma doctor and Midlands Air Ambulance volunteers were among those who arrived at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said that Ferry "suffered multiple fractures to his legs, pelvis, left arm and had a head injury."

Ferry, 24, was assessed at the scene and had splints put in place before travelling with the doctor to the Major Trauma Centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

There was a small fire in the second car, but the driver was able to get out of the vehicle, suffering minor injuries.
