Police are searching for a gunman in Coventry after a dramatic armed standoff.

Approximately 20 residents were taken as a precaution to Tile Hill Library after their homes were evacuated after a shooting at around 2pm on the 4th of June.

Police marksmen with semi-automatic weapons had surrounded a property in Thomas Naul Croft, after a man in his early 20s named locally as Ben Buckeridge, was struck in the arm after five bullets were sprayed in to his home on Faseman Avenue at 2pm.

He was taken to Coventry’s University Hospital with injuries to his lower arm, he has since discharged himself.

Police say it was a targeted attack and wasn't random.

Ward councillor Steven Thomas was with the evacuees helping families forced to shelter there and told Heart: “Residents have been allowed to return home and that he thanks everyone for their help.''
