Teenager Arrested In Murder Investigation

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested as part of a murder investigation in Smethwick. A 48-year-old woman was found dead in a street on Wednesday night.

Police investigating the murder of a woman in Smethwick on Wednesday night have made an arrest.
 
A 14-year-old boy was arrested at an address in the area at around 4pm yesterday on suspicion of murder.
 
The 48-year-old woman was found dead on Cheshire Street at just before 11.50pm on Wednesday.
 
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Ridding said: “Our inquiries are very much on-going and we are still in the early stages of an investigation. 
 
“Officers remain in Smethwick this evening carrying out reassurance patrols, while we continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. 
 
“We’re still appealing to anyone who was in the Cheshire Road area last night to contact us on either 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
 
Formal identification of the woman has not yet taken place and a forensic post mortem will be held in due course to establish the cause of her death.
