St. George's Day Celebrations

Celebrations are going on throughout today to celebrate the patron saint of England - St. George.

According to the Director of the Swindon Cultural Partnership Mike Pringle, he thinks Swindon is 'a perfect model of England'.

Well, today is St. George's Day and we're being asked to celebrate our patron saint.

There's plenty of activities happening in Swindon, including a massive 20ft high figure of St. George which will make its way along Canal Walk from 12.30pm.

We're also being asked to organise litter picks this weekend to show pride in our communities.

Some are calling for this day - April 23rd - to be a national holiday, and this is something Mr. Pringle fully supports. 'We have these bank holidays, does anybody know quite what they're all about, where they come from or what is it we're celebrating? So I think the idea of having a holiday on a day we all understand is brilliant. Let's just do it.'
