CCTV released after racial abuse

Police in Wirral have released CCTV footage of man they want to speak to after a member of staff at Rock Ferry train station was racially abused.

It happened at 1.20pm on June 16 when a couple were asked to show their tickets.

The woman said they didn't have a ticket, while the man claimed they were just waiting and had no intention of travelling.

They were asked to wait outside the station and, at this point, the man became aggressive and shouted racist abuse at one of the members of staff.

PC Paul Hevey from British Transport Police said:

"The abuse levelled at the staff was completely unacceptable and BTP will do everything in its power to find the offender and take action against him.

"We believe the man pictured in the CCTV footage has key information in relation to this incident and I appeal to anyone who recognises him, or has information about the incident, to come forward."

If you recognise the man or have information, please ring BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote incident 263 of 16 June 2010.
