Christmas parking free in Liverpool?

People travel from miles around to shop in Liverpool and this Christmas you might be able to park for free there.

The City Council is working with Liverpool's Chamber of Commerce on the idea and hope it will bring more people to the City before the festive season.

They are also asking shops to consider longer opening hours for more late night shopping.

Although no dates have been released on when the scheme might start, Liverpool's Chamber of Commerce have broadly welcomed the plans.

Chief Executive Jack Stopforth said:

"We're very keen on this and the Christmas period is crucial to us, particularly this year with one eye on the VAT rise January so we support anything that will maximise trade.

"We already have late night shopping on a Thursday but we now need to ask our members which other night they might consider but it's not as straightforward as it sounds as you have overtime charges for staff if you open longer."
