Delays expected as improvements start

Drivers using the M53 could face delays in the coming days as improvement works get underway.

The northbound slip-road onto the motorway will be shut at junction 5 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night.

It's to allow improvements to be made to a pedestrian crossing there so disabled people can cross safely.

The slip-road will shut from 10pm until 5am for each of the three evenings.

Mark Mosley, Highways Agency project sponsor, said:

"We are pleased to be carrying out this work which will be of especial help to the visually impaired and people using wheelchairs.

"It is part of our commitment to provide these facilities as a result of the Disability Discrimination Act.

"The work has been planned to avoid disruption but both drivers and pedestrians should take extra care when in the area."
