Device found at Wirral tip

Controlled explosion carried out on incendiary device

Workers at the Bidston Recycling Centre called the police after workers found a suspicious device there on Tuesday (19th) morning.

Merseyside Police have told Heart that the devices was an illume mortar which had previously been detonated but still contained some explosive material.

Experts from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal carried out a controlled explosion on the device for safety reasons.

It  is not believed to have been a World War II device although it was obsolete.

The  recycling centre has been reopened.
