Gas problems in Wirral

House in Moreton left without gas as water gets into the supply

500 homes have been reconnected to the gas supply after nearly 2000 were cut off on Friday (11th)

National Grid took the action after water got into the pipes at a main burst, so far engineers have pumped 200,000 litres of water from the gas network in Moreton and Leasowe on the Wirral.

On Sunday evening the situation got even worse as people turned to electric heaters and cookers, a serge wiped out power two homes on two streets.

1281 properties are still waiting to have their gas turned back on but engineers can't get into 25 buildings, the National Grid are warning that they may have to seek warrants from the courts to be able to gain entry to carry out the work which they say is holding up the process.
