More orders for Airbus

Virgin buy 60 planes from the manufacturer who build all their wings in North Wales

Airbus announced on Monday (17th) its 10,000th order with Virgin America ordering for 60 new aircraft.

The A320s, include 30 A320neo aircraft which new engine option uses 15% less fuel, something which Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson was looking for: "Climate change cannot be ignored by business, and I believe that we must rise to the challenge of combating it and find new and better ways of operating.

"The A320neo will help us get there, by lowering costs and reducing our impact on the environment.

"Virgin America’s existing A320s are now up to 25 percent more fuel and carbon efficient than the average U.S. fleet, and the A320neo promises to improve on the numbers even more."

All of Airbus' wings are made in Broughton in North Wales where managers there have told Heart that the news of the order means greater job security.

During the Airbus Annual Press Conference the company announced they took 574 orders last year and delivered 510 new aircraft to customers which makes them the biggest manufacturer in the world, producing more aircraft than their US rivals Boeing.
