Road chaos expected as getaway begins

The Highways Agency is warning the region's roads will have 20% more traffic on them as normal on Friday as the Bank Holiday getaway begins.

Across the UK 16 million people are expected to take to their cars for a long weekend away.

Dave Cronin from the Highways Agency in the North West said:

"Traffic is 20% up from a normal day over the Bank Holiday weekend so we put on extra patrols on to control anything that happens on the network.

"We've either completed all our roadworks or we have taken off the cones for the August Bank Holiday."

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is also expecting a busy weekend.

The terminal in Speke says it will see 74,000 passengers over the next three days.
