"Strong" chance of Ampera in Cheshire

The man in charge of Vauxhall's parent company General Motors says there's a "strong" chance the company's new electric car will be built in Ellesmere Port.

GM have already said they plan to build the Ampera in Europe but if it came to the Cheshire factory it would mean long term security for all the staff there.

Speaking at the Paris Motor show, GM Chief Executive Nick Reilly said:

"It's the right sort of size and the factory is well able to build that type of car.

"We first have to decide to manufacture it somewhere in Europe and if we do Ellesmere Port has a good chance of manufacturing it, I can't say any more than that right now."

When pressed by Sky News on what chance there was of it coming to Cheshire, Mr Reilly replied: "strong".
