Waste could be take 140 miles away

Rubbish that can't be recycled on Merseyside could be taken 140 miles away to be incinerated.

The Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority are still looking at how to handle the regions waste.

Carl Beer, Director of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority said: “The facilities that are being proposed are to generate resources from that waste which is not reused or recycled.

“These include plans from Covanta at the Ince Marshes site in Cheshire, and a proposal from SITA for the Wilton International site in Teesside.

"Each bidder is proposing an Energy from Waste facility for the production of energy in the form of electricity and/or heat from household waste."

Which ever site is chosen, it would start to be used in 2015.
