Water problems mean Wirral compensation

United Utilities say compensation will be paid to the thousands of customers in Wirral who spent Friday without any water.

More than 14,000 homes in Moreton, Wallasey and Leasowe were affected when repair work overran.

It meant that 11 schools across Wirral had to close on Friday.

The water supply was finally restored by 6pm on Friday evening but United Utilities said it could take a while for water pressure to get back to normal and anyone with discoloured water should let it run to clear it.

The company says it will contact customers in line for compensation after all the problems.

Christian Ewan from United Utilities said:

"We're collating the data and are aware of the areas affected by the work and we're aware of the lengths of time that customers have been off.

"We will be pro-actively contacting customers concerned to arrange compensation payments so that is an area we are looking at and will be developing."
