Peterborough Man Jailed For Raping 10 Year Old

A Peterborough man who raped a 10-year-old girl in the 1990s has been jailed for eight years.

Dale Barrett, 33, preyed on the victim after befriending her family in Peterborough.

He raped the girl on three separate occasions.

She came forward to police in 2012.

Barrett of Wootton Avenue, Fletton, denied three charges of rape and two of indecent assault but was convicted following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court.

He was jailed for a total of eight years on Wednesday (June 18).

Detective Constable Gavin Sylvester from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: "Barrett was well aware how young the victim was but still chose to take advantage of her.

"His actions have had a huge impact on her life and I hope that she is now able to put this behind her and start to move on."
