Bedfordshire Police have launched a renewed appeal for information about missing Bedford woman Sonica Hans, two years after she disappeared on Boxing Day 2012.
Sonica, then aged 35, went missing from her home in Bedford which she shared at the time with her sister and brother in law. There has been no trace, sightings or communication of Sonica since.
Indian-born Sonica is about 5’3’’ with very long black hair which, at the time of her disappearance, was dyed dark brown. Sonica was last seen wearing a pair of red trousers/leggings, black thigh-length jumper and a dark blue jacket; she would have been in possession of an iPhone
Sonica left Priory Court flat which she shared with her sister Manisha at around 1.30pm on December 26, 2012; she left with a male friend who had travelled down from Nuneaton to visit her over the Christmas period. Sonica told Manisha that she was going into town and that she would come straight back. Someone matching Sonica’s description was seen on CCTV near The Swan Hotel at about 2pm.
Detective Chief Inspector Juliette Everett, who is reviewing her case, said:
"We are asking anyone who was on the Embankment on Boxing Day afternoon two years ago to cast their mind back and see if they remember seeing Sonica. We know from CCTV that there were several people out and about on this day. If you have any information for us, however small or insignificant you think it is, please call us. Don’t leave it to someone else or assume it’s not important.
Sonica had never gone been missing before and her family have no idea where she is or why she has never made contact with anyone."
At the time, extensive searches along the river bank and elsewhere together with financial enquiries drew a blank. Sonica’s mum, living in India has since died in July 2013 and still there was no contact from Sonica.
Sonica’s 37th birthday came and went on August 1, 2014 and detectives reviewed the case again, as is standard in missing person’s enquiries. Additional searches of the River Ouse was conducted by the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service Recovery Team in August as Sonica’s phone was last used around the area of the river on the day of her disappearance.
